Ingredients for Bacon Cheeseburgers:
- Ground Beef ~ We used 70/30 for these juicy burgers
- Steak Rub ~ Or use your favorite all purpose seasoning
- Diced Onion ~ Yellow onions or sweet onions
- Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sauce ~ Adds flavor and keeps the burgers juicy
- Bacon ~ Thick sliced
- American Cheese Slices ~ Or cheddar slices
- Lettuce
- Tomato
- Favorite Condiments: Burger Sauce, Mayonnaise, Miracle Whip, Mustard, Ketchup
- Buns ~ A good sturdy bun is best for these hearty burgers
How to Grill Bacon Cheeseburgers:
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef with steak rub, diced onion and bbq sauce. Mix with a wooden spoon or with clean hands.
- Form into 6 patties. Press an indentation in the center for burgers to grill up flat.
- Prepare a grill fire to about 350° using hickory or pecan chunks for smoke flavor.
Cook the Bacon:
Once I learned how to cook bacon in the oven, I've never looked back. Especially to feed the whole family, there's no easier way. We like to cook 3 slices of thick cut bacon per burger.
- Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Place bacon in a single layer and bake at 400° for 20 minutes or until crisp. Drain on a paper towel lined plate until ready to serve.
Grill the Burgers:
- Grill burgers over indirect fire for 5 minutes with the grill closed.
- Flip burgers and continue to cook another 5 - 10 minutes until burgers reach 165°.
- Remove from grill and top with cheese slices.
- Toast buns if desired.
- Make the burgers by adding your favorite condiments to both top and bottom buns. Layer lettuce, tomato, burger patty, bacon and then the top bun.
How to Store and Reheat:
- Store burger patties and bacon in a zip top bag in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
- Reheat burger patties in a covered skillet with 2 tablespoons water over medium-high heat. Flip after 3 minutes, cook another 3 minutes or until heated through. Reheat bacon in another skillet over low heat, flipping as it starts to warm up, cooking about 2-3 minutes.
- Burger patties can also be reheated in an air fryer at 350° for about 4- 5 minutes.
