It’s always burger season around our house and these classic burgers are on the menu at least once a week. Burgers are so simple to make on the grill. A quick and easy dinner for any night of the week.

Classic Grilled Burgers

How to Grill Classic Burgers:

Ground beef and steak rub seasonings for grilled burgers

  • Mix ground beef with steak rub and form into patties placing an indention in the center. 

Grilling burgers

  • Prepare a grill fire to about 300° with hickory or oak for smoke flavor.
  • Place patties over indirect fire and cook with the lid closed for about 5 minutes. 

Classic seasoned burgers on the grill

  • Flip burgers and cook for another 8-10 minutes or until internal temperature of burgers reaches 165° with a digital thermometer. 
  • Remove burgers from the grill.

  • Serve on buns with your favorite toppings like lettuce, tomato and red onion.

Tips for Juicy Burgers:

  • Using a digital thermometer will ensure that your burgers are cooked through but not overcooked and dry. 
  • Mix in barbecue sauce or your favorite steak sauce with the ground beef and seasonings. 
  • Combine one slice of sandwich bread with 1/4 cup of milk and mix into ground beef.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated garlic
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon coarse ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 8 hamburger buns
  • lettuce tomato, red onion for serving plus your favorite condiments

Instructions

  • Prepare a grill fire to about 300° with hickory or oak for wood smoke.
  • Mix the steak rub by combining brown sugar, garlic, smoked paprika, salt, pepper and dry mustard together.
  • Mix seasonings into ground beef and form into 8 patties with an indention in the middle of each.
  • Place over indirect heat and cook with the lid closed for 5 minutes. Flip burgers and continue to cook until burgers reach 165° internal temperature.
  • Remove from grill and serve on buns topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and your favorite condiments.

  1. Love, love love these burgers! They are the family go to! We have added a step-courtesy of making donairs. We bind it up a little tighter by throwing the individual burger multiple times against a plate before shaping and cooking.
