A good mushroom and Swiss burger from the drive thru is so hard to resist. Grilling the burgers and the mushrooms adds amazing flavor, making these homemade burgers the best you’ve ever tasted.

Grilled Mushroom & Swiss Burgers

How to Grill Mushroom and Swiss Burgers:

Steak Rub Ingredients

  • In small bowl combine brown sugar and seasonings for steak rub. 

Seasoned Ground Beef for Burgers

  • Combine lean ground beef or ground chuck with steak rub. 

Burger patties

  • Form into patties. 
  • Prepare the grill to a 300° fire with hickory or oak for the best wood smoke flavor. 

Sliced Mushrooms

  • Wash mushrooms, pat dry with paper towels and slice thin. 
  • Toss mushrooms with olive oil, salt and pepper. 

Grilled Mushrooms

  • Place seasoned mushrooms on a grill pan. 
  • Cook mushrooms over indirect heat. 

Grilled Burgers

  • Place burgers over fire and grill for about 8 minutes per side or until internal temperature reaches 165°. 
  • Melt slices of Swiss cheese over grilled burgers. 

Easy Onion Strings

  • Meanwhile, cook your onion strings. We like to do this outside on our propane burner but they also will cook up quickly on your stove top. 

Burgers with mushroom, Swiss & onion strings

  • Layer buns with onion strings, top with burger patties and grilled mushrooms. Add your favorite condiments and top buns. 

Serve your burgers with Fries, Creamy Potato Salad, Coleslaw or Grilled Mexican Street Corn

Ingredients

For the Steak Rub:

  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated garlic
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard

For the Burgers

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 8 oz white mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 slices Swiss Cheese
  • 6 burger buns
  • Onion Strings

Instructions

  • Mix steak rub by combining brown sugar with garlic, smoked paprika, 1 tablespoon salt, 1 tablespoon pepper and dry mustard.
  • Add ground beef to a bowl and mix in steak rub. Form into 6 patties with an indention in the center.
  • Prepare grill with a 300° fire with hickory or oak wood for smoke flavor.
  • Wash mushrooms and pat dry with paper towels. Thinly slice and toss with olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Place on a grill pan.
  • Add burgers to the grill over the direct fire and place mushrooms over indirect heat.
  • Cook burgers 8- 10 minutes on each side or until internal temperature reaches 165°.
  • Stir mushrooms occasionally.
  • Top burgers with Swiss cheese. Remove burgers and mushrooms from the grill.
  • Layer buns with onions strings, burger patties, mushrooms and your favorite condiments.
