Ingredients 

  • White Onions
  • Olive Oil
  • Butter
  • Cream Cheese
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Granulated Garlic
  • Dried Thyme
  • Dried Oregano
  • Dried Basil
  • Kosher Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Fresh Parsley

Step by Step Instructions

  • Cut the ends off of whole onions so that they will sit flat. Slice in half and remove the insides of the onions, leaving about 2-3 layers as a shell.
  • Place a small onion slice into the bottom of each half, so that the filling will not run out of the shell.

  • Slice the insides of the onions and cook in butter, in a small pan over medium heat, stirring often until caramelized.

  • Add softened cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, thyme, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. 
  • Mix until well combined.

  • Spray or brush onion shells with olive oil, coating both sides.

  • Stuff onions with filling.

  • Cook onions over indirect fire with the grill closed for about 15- 20 minutes.

  • When onions are lightly browned and filling is hot, remove to a serving platter.

  • Serve immediately.

How to Store and Reheat:

Store leftover onions in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 4 days. 

Reheat in an air fryer at 350° for about 4-5 minutes or on a baking sheet in a 350° oven for about 8- 10 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 large white onions
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 ounces cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ teaspoon granulated garlic
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • When onions are lightly browned and filling is hot, remove to a serving platter. Garnish with parsley if desired.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

Recipe can be doubled as needed.
Store leftover onions in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
Reheat in an air fryer or oven at 350°. Air fryer cooking time should be about 3- 5 minutes and oven time about 8- 10 minutes.
