Pellet Grill Smashed Potatoes

Pellet Grill Smashed Potatoes are a great side dish for any meal on the grill. Yukon gold baked potatoes smashed and cooked until crispy with garlic butter and melted cheese.

We fired up our grills this weekend and made the best BBQ Chicken Thighs and these Smashed Potatoes on the pellet grill. It was a delicious bbq meal that disappeared in a flash.

The pellet grill is our favorite for making easy side dishes to go with all of our meals on the grill.

Ingredients Needed

  • Yukon Gold Potatoes ~ Small to medium potatoes work best.
  • Butter
  • Granulated Garlic
  • Kosher Salt
  • Fresh Ground Pepper
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sauce

Step By Step Directions

4 Yukon gold potatoes, washed and drying on a gray towel.

Scrub potatoes and pierce with a fork.

Place on a pellet grill cooking for about 1 hour until softened.

Yukon gold potatoes cut in half on a lined baking sheet.

Remove from grill and cut potatoes in half.

Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.

Place potatoes cut side down on the parchment paper.

Smashing potatoes with a glass.

Use a glass or potato masher to mash the potatoes flat.

Spooning melted butter over smashed potatoes.

Spoon melted butter over each potato.

Topping smashed potatoes with shredded cheddar cheese.

Season with garlic, salt and pepper.

Top with shredded cheese.

Drizzle with bbq sauce.

Return to the grill, cooking until potatoes are crisp around the edges, about 30 minutes.

Remove from grill and serve immediately.

How to Store and Reheat

Store leftover potatoes in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 4 days.

Reheat in a 350° oven on a sheet pan for 10- 12 minutes or in a skillet coated with olive oil or butter over medium heat until heated through.

  • 4 Yukon gold potatoes (small to medium sized)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ground pepper
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup sweet and tangy bbq sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat pellet grill to 375°.
  2. Scrub potatoes and pierce with a fork.
  3. Place on a pellet grill cooking for about 1 hour until softened.
  4. Remove from grill and cut potatoes in half.
  5. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  6. Place potatoes cut side down on the parchment paper.
  7. Use a glass or potato masher to mash the potatoes flat.
  8. Spoon melted butter over each potato.
  9. Season with garlic, salt and pepper.
  10. Top with shredded cheese and bbq sauce.
  11. Return to the grill, cooking until potatoes are crisp around the edges, about 30 minutes.
