Ingredients for Green Bean Casserole
- fresh green beans
- salted butter
- white mushrooms
- onion
- bell pepper
- minced garlic
- all purpose flour
- heavy cream
- chicken or vegetable broth
- kosher salt
- fresh ground pepper
- French fried onions
Step-By-Step Directions for Smoked Green Bean Casserole
- Bring 4-5 cups of water to a boil in a large pan. Add green beans and cook for 8-10 minutes or until tender. Drain and set aside.
- Dice onions and bell peppers, mince the garlic. Add to a skillet with melted butter, cooking until vegetables are star softened.
- Add sliced mushrooms and continue to cook, stirring occasionally until mushrooms are softened, about 3 – 5 minutes.
- Add remaining butter to the skillet and sprinkle in flour. Whisk to combine and cook over medium heat for 3-5 minutes.
- Whisk in cream, broth, salt and pepper. Cook for 4-5 minutes, whisking continually until thickened and smooth.
- Add green beans and mix to combine.
- You can leave the mixture in the skillet or place in a baking pan.
- Top with French fried onions and cover with foil.
- Place on a preheated grill for 25 minutes. Remove foil and continue to cook 10-15 minutes or until onions are browned and crispy.
- Remove from the grill and serve immediately.

Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh green beans washed, trimmed and cut in half
- 4 tablespoons butter divided use
- 1 cup diced onion
- 1 cup diced bell pepper
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 8 ounces white mushrooms washed and sliced
- 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ¾ cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
- 1 cup French fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat grill to 350°.
- Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large pan. Add green beans and cook for 8-10 minutes or until tender. Drain and set aside.
- Add onions, bell peppers and garlic to a skillet with 2 tablespoons butter, cook over medium- high heat until vegetables are star softened.
- Add mushrooms and continue to cook, stirring occasionally until mushrooms are softened, about 3 – 5 minutes.
- Add remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet and sprinkle in flour. Whisk to combine and cook over medium heat for 3-5 minutes.
- Whisk in cream, broth, salt and pepper. Cook for 4-5 minutes, whisking continually until thickened and smooth.
- Add green beans and mix to combine.
- Leave the mixture in the skillet or place in a baking pan that you don't mind placing on the grill.
- Top with French fried onions and cover with aluminum foil.
- Grill for 25 minutes. Remove aluminum foil and continue to cook 10-15 minutes or until onions are browned and crispy.
- Remove from grill and serve immediately.

This is grilled, not smoked. Glad I read through the recipe before I sent it to my friends who have a smoker. Their time would have been wasted just like mine was. Perhaps you should rename this.
