Make Ahead: Prepare the green bean casserole to the point before adding the onions. Cover tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Refrigerate up to 2 days. Add onions before baking and add an additional 5 minutes to cook time.
Leftovers: Store leftover green bean casserole in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 2 days.
Reheat: Place green bean casserole in a non-stick pan and cook over medium heat, stirring until heated through.
Variations: Use a can of cream of mushroom soup in place of adding flour and heavy cream if desired.
More Additions: Add in 1 cup shredded cheese for a cheesy green bean casserole. Sprinkle 4 slices cooked and crumbled bacon over the top with the French fried onions for a loaded green bean casserole.
