Grilled Steaks are at the top of our favorite meals list. We are sharing our Garlic and Onion Ribeyes and making them even better with garlic butter grilled onions. This Prime Rib Roast is one of the best things you can make for Christmas dinner or for large family gatherings.

Ingredients for Ribeyes with Grilled Onions:

  • Ribeye Steaks
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic and Onion Rub or Steak Rub
  • Whole Onions ~ We used red onion, yellow onions or sweet onions work great too. 
  • Butter
  • Granulated Garlic
  • Smoked Paprika

How to Grill Ribeye Steaks with Grilled Onions:

3 raw ribeyes drizzled with olive oil

  • Pat steaks dry with paper towels. 
  • Drizzle with olive oil.

Sprinkle with dry rub on both sides.

  • Peel onions Slice onions into 1/2 inch slices. 
  • Mix butter with garlic and smoked paprika. 
  • Spread the butter on one side the onion slices and stack back together.
  • Wrap tightly with heavy duty aluminum foil.
  • Prepare a grill fire to 400° using hickory, oak or pecan for smoke flavor.
  • Place onion over indirect fire while the grill gets hot, with the grill closed. A medium sized onion should be cooked through in about 25- 30 minutes.

  • When onion has been cooking for about 20 minutes, add the steaks over direct fire.
  • Lower the grill temperature to about 350°. Cook the steaks with the grill closed 5 minutes.

Flip the steaks and continue to cook until desired temperature is reached, about another 3- 5 minutes for medium.

  • Remove steaks and onion from the grill. Let steaks rest 5 minutes before serving.
  • Carefully open the foil packet.

  • Serve steaks with grilled onion rings.

The grilled garlic butter onions are a great side dish or perfect to serve over the steaks. They get so sweet and buttery on the grill and add delicious flavor to any grilled steak.

Internal Temperature for Ribeyes:

  • Rare:  130°
  • Medium Rare: 140°
  • Medium: 155°

HOW TO STORE AND REHEAT:

  • Store leftover steak and onions wrapped in plastic wrap in the refrigerator up to 4 days.
  • Slice steak and reheat with in a skillet with a bit of butter over low heat. Stir until heated through.
