Step By Step Directions for the Best Grilled Cheese
Grill the Steak:
- Season steak with olive oil and steak rub on both sides.
- Cook over a hot grill fire, turning after 5 minutes and continuing to cook until steak reaches 130° or desired doneness using a digital meat thermometer.
- Remove from grill. Rest 10 minutes. Slice steak into thin strips. If making ahead, cool to room temperature, wrap and refrigerate.

- 6 tablespoons softened salted butter, divided
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon fresh ground pepper
- 8 slices wheat bread
- 8 slices Swiss cheese
