Smoked Pork Sandwich ~ Cuban Style

A classic Cuban sandwich is always a crowd favorite and we are putting our own spin on a classic. These sandwiches can be ready to eat in just about 15 minutes and make a hearty dinner that is so satisfying.

Ingredients Needed:

How to Make Smoked Pork Sandwiches:

3 layers of Italian bread loaf.

  • We like to slice about 1/2 inch of the bread loaf from the center to keep the sandwich from being too thick and hard to eat.  Save it for toast, croutons or bread crumbs.

  • Spread the bread with honey mustard and top with pickle slices.
  • Add a layer of pork roast, cheese, ham and one more layer of cheese.

  • Toast the sandwich until bread is heated through and cheese is melted.

  • Remove from oven and put the sandwich together.
  • Press the sandwich with your hands to flatten.

How to Store and Reheat:

  • Store leftovers wrapped in plastic wrap in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
  • Sandwiches can be served cold or wrap in foil and heat in a 350° oven for about 12- 15 minutes.

  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Slice about 1/2 inch layer out of the center (longwise) of the Italian Bread and save for another use.
  • Place the two outer layers of the bread onto a baking sheet.
  • Spread honey mustard sauce over each side and top with pickle slices.
  • Layer smoked pork over each followed by slices of Swiss cheese. Add the ham and then 4 more slices of cheese to one side.
  • Bake the sandwich for about 10 minutes or until cheese is melted and bread is lightly toasted.
  • Remove from oven and put the sandwich layers together, pressing with your hands to smash the sandwich,
  • Mix the melted butter and granulated garlic together and brush over the top of the sandwich.
  • Cut into slices and serve immediately.

Notes

Store leftover sandwiches wrapped in plastic wrap or in a zip top bag in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
Serve cold or reheat wrapped in foil in a 350° oven for 12- 15 minutes.
