It only takes a few minutes to mix up this Sweet and Smoky Rub and it’s perfectly fine to mix up a double batch and keep it in the pantry for your next grilling recipe.

Ingredients Needed

  • Brown Sugar ~ Use dark or light, whatever you have on hand.
  • Granulated Garlic
  • Granulated Onion
  • Chili Powder
  • Smoked Paprika
  • Kosher Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Ground Cinnamon – It may sound out of the ordinary but it just adds a depth of warm flavor to the rub. It’s compliments the other spices without being overwhelming.

Directions for Homemade Rub

Add all of the ingredients to a bow and whisk together until well blended.

Store in an airtight container in the pantry up to 3 months, stir with a fork before using, the brown sugar will clump.

For a pork butt, we used the entire batch. For pork chops or chicken, use 1/2 tablespoon per pork chop or piece of chicken.

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • cup kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated garlic
  • 1 tablespoon granulated onion
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine brown sugar, salt, garlic, onion, paprika, chili powder, pepper and ground cinnamon.
  • Whisk together until well combined.
