Grilled Steak Cordon Bleu
Grilled Steak Cordon Bleu is a tasty meal that is perfect for entertaining guests or to serve for any holiday meal. Sirloin steaks are stuffed with smoky ham slices and Swiss cheese and then grilled to perfection with hardwood smoke.
Grilled Stuffed Steak Rolls are one of our favorites for a special occasion dinner. Grilled sirloin is always tender and flavorful, making it a great choice to feed a crowd. Serve them up with our BBQ Bacon Onion Baked Potatoes for a delicious meal made on the grill.
Grilled Steak Cordon Bleu ~ Sirloin Steak stuffed with Ham and Swiss
If you love traditional chicken cordon bleu, this steak version will knock your socks off. It is incredibly flavorful and makes a beautiful presentation for a special occasion or holiday meal.
Ingredients for Steak Cordon Bleu:
- Sirloin Steak ~ Round Steak will also work but will not be quite as tender.
- Sliced Ham ~ Great for leftover ham or use deli slices.
- Swiss Cheese Slices ~ Monterey Jack would also work.
- Olive Oil
- Steak Rub ~ Our favorite rub for any grilled steak.
How to Grill Steak Cordon Bleu:
- Trim the steaks, removing the thick fat along the edge. Slice steaks into 2 thinner steaks. Placing skewers on either side of the steaks will help to cut the steak evenly.
- Add thin sliced ham the full length of the steaks.
- Top with slices of Swiss cheese.
- Roll up the steaks from the short end.
- Secure with a bamboo skewers.
- Repeat with remaining steak slices.
- Spray or brush the steak rolls with olive oil.
- Sprinkle with steak rub all over the outsides of the rolls. Trim the skewer sticks if desired.
- Grill over indirect fire with the grill closed. We used pecan chunks for smoke flavor.
- Cook for about 20 minutes and check internal temperature using a digital meat thermometer, cooking until steak reaches about 140° near the center.
- Remove to a platter and allow to rest 10 minutes before slicing.
- Serve sliced steak rolls on a platter. White BBQ Sauce is the perfect sauce to serve alongside beef cordon bleu.
How to Store and Reheat:
- Store leftover steak cordon bleu in an airtight container or plate wrapped in plastic wrap in the refrigerator up to 4 days.
- Reheat in a skillet coated with olive oil over medium heat, turning to heat from both sides. Cook until heated through.

Grilled Steak Cordon Bleu
Ingredients
- 2 pounds boneless sirloin steak
- 4 ounces thin sliced ham
- 4 large slices Swiss cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ¼ cup Steak Rub
Instructions
- Prepare a grill fire to 320° using hickory or pecan for smoke flavor.
- Pat steaks dry with paper towels. Trip fat from around the edges.
- Use a sharp knife to slice the steaks into about 1/4 inch thick steaks.
- Layer ham and Swiss slices the length of each steak.
- Roll up from the short side and secure with a wooden skewer.
- Spray or brush the steak rolls with olive oil.
- Sprinkle with dry rub over the entire outside of the rolls.
- Use kitchen shears to trim the skewers down to make the rolls easier to move around the grill.
- Grill steak rolls over indirect fire with the grill closed for about 15 - 20 minutes. Use a digital thermometer to check the steak, cooking until internal temperature reaches about 140° near the center. We cooked these for about 30 minutes total.
- Remove from grill and allow to rest 10 minutes.
- Discard the skewers. Use a sharp knife to cut each steak into thin slices.
- Serve on a platter.
