Ingredients Needed for BBQ Jalapeno Poppers

  • Large Jalapeños
  • Ground Beef – we are using 90/10 grass fed ground beef.
  • Steak Rub
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Cheddar Cheese – grated
  • Mozzarella Cheese – grated
  • Thin Sliced Bacon
  • Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sauce

Step-By-Step Directions for Bacon Cheeseburger Jalapeno Poppers

  1. Make the Filling: Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat, crumbling as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed. Season with Steak rub and Worcestershire sauce, mixing well, cook 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, combine browned hamburger meat with shredded cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheeese.

  1. Prep Jalapenos: Slice jalapenos lengthwise, leaving the stems intact. Remove seeds and membranes. Rinse jalapenos and pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. Make the Poppers: Fill jalapeno halves with cheeseburger filling.
  3. Wrap a slice of bacon around each jalapeno and place on a baking sheet or tray. Refrigerate while you prepare the grill.

  1. Grill: We are cooking on our Big Green Egg with lump charcoal and hickory chunks for smoke flavor. Heat the grill to 350°.
  2. Place bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers onto the hot grill over indirect fire. Cook with the grill closed about 20 minutes, monitoring closely.
  3. When bacon is crisp, brush with bbq sauce in a thick layer. Close the lid, cooking another 1- 2 minutes.

  1. Remove from grill and allow to cool about 5 minutes before serving.

  • Add-Ins: Sautéed onions or diced dill pickles can be mixed in with the ground beef and cheese for the filling.
  • Make Ahead: Fill jalapenos and wrap with bacon. Place in a single layer in a casserole dish or baking pan. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate up to one day in advance.
  • Storage: Store leftover jalapeno poppers in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: Place jalapeno poppers onto a lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes at 350°.
