Grilled Stuffed Mushrooms are a hearty and delicious appetizer for cookouts, holidays and special occasions. Made with a sausage and cheese filling and topped with French fried onions for a low-carb favorite.
Grilled appetizers are a great start to any holiday or get together with friends and family and these stuffed mushrooms are a guaranteed hit for any mushroom lover.
Ingredients for Grilled Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms:
- Ground Sausage
- Olive Oil
- Onion
- Garlic
- Kosher Salt
- Pepper
- Cream Cheese
- White Cheddar Cheese
- White Mushrooms
- French Fried Onions
- Fresh Parsley for garnish
How to Make Grilled Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms:
- Cook sausage in a skillet over medium heat, crumbling to brown all sides. Drain on a paper towel lined plate and set aside.
- Add olive oil to the skillet and cook diced onion and minced garlic over medium heat until onions are softened.
- Mix in sausage, cream cheese, shredded cheddar, salt and pepper.
- Stir until well combined and cheese is melted.
- Rinse mushrooms and dry with paper towels. Remove stems and use for another recipe like BBQ Steak Bites.
- Spoon filling into mushroom tops.
- Add a few French fried onions to the top of each mushroom.
- Place over indirect fire on a 350° grill and cook for 15- 2o minutes.
- Mushrooms should be golden brown.
- Remove from grill and garnish with parsley.
- Serve immediately.
Recipe Variations:
The sausage can be Italian or breakfast sausage or substitute ground beef or venison if you prefer.
Mix in other types of cheese like smoked gouda or Parmesan and add a bit of shredded cheese to the tops before grilling.
If you don't have French fried onions, crushed Ritz crackers are another great option but the mushrooms will no longer be low-carb.
How to Store and Reheat:
Store leftover mushrooms in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
Reheat in oven at 325° for about 8- 10 minutes.

- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ cup diced onion
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- ½ cup shredded white cheddar cheese
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup French fried onions
- fresh parsley for garnish, optional
