- ¼ pound ground sausage
- 16 ounces white mushrooms
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ cup diced onion
- 1 garlic clove minced
- ½ cup shredded white cheddar cheese
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup French fried onions
- fresh parsley for garnish optional
Cook sausage in a skillet over medium heat, crumbling to brown all sides. Drain on a paper towel lined plate and set aside.
Add olive oil to the skillet and cook diced onion and minced garlic over medium heat until onions are softened.
Mix in sausage, cream cheese, shredded cheddar, salt and pepper, stirring until well combined and cheese is melted.
Rinse mushrooms and dry with paper towels. Remove stems and use for another recipe.
Spoon filling into mushroom tops.
Add a few French fried onions to the top of each mushroom.
Place over indirect fire on a 350° grill and cook for 15- 20 minutes or until mushrooms are browned.
Remove from grill and garnish with parsley.
Serve immediately.
