Grilled Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms

Grilled Stuffed Mushrooms are a hearty and delicious appetizer for cookouts, holidays and special occasions. Made with a sausage and cheese filling and topped with French fried onions for a low-carb favorite.

Ingredients

  • ¼ pound ground sausage
  • 16 ounces white mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cup diced onion
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • ½ cup shredded white cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup French fried onions
  • fresh parsley for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Cook sausage in a skillet over medium heat, crumbling to brown all sides. Drain on a paper towel lined plate and set aside.
  • Add olive oil to the skillet and cook diced onion and minced garlic over medium heat until onions are softened.
  • Mix in sausage, cream cheese, shredded cheddar, salt and pepper, stirring until well combined and cheese is melted.
  • Rinse mushrooms and dry with paper towels. Remove stems and use for another recipe. 
  • Spoon filling  into mushroom tops. 
  • Add a few French fried onions to the top of each mushroom.
  • Place over indirect fire on a 350° grill and cook for 15- 20 minutes or until mushrooms are browned. 
  • Remove from grill and garnish with parsley. 
  • Serve immediately.
