BBQ Steak Bites
BBQ Steak Bites are a quick and easy appetizer for any occasion. Made with sirloin steak, vegetables and homemade bbq sauce quickly grilled for the perfect savory bite.
Appetizers are a must have for holidays and get togethers and these steak bites with mushrooms and onions couldn’t be easier or any more delicious!
Ingredients for BBQ Steak Bites:
- Sirloin Steak
- Onion
- Mushroom stems or caps
- Homemade BBQ Sauce

How to Grill BBQ Steak Bites:
- Soak bamboo picks in water for about 20 minutes while you prepare a grill fire to about 300° using hickory wood for smoke flavor.
- Cut sirloin steak into about 1 inch cubes.
- Slice onion into bite size pieces.
- Rinse mushrooms and pat dry with paper towels. Do not soak mushrooms.
- Drain bamboo picks.
- Add a slice of onion, mushroom and a chunk of steak to each bamboo pick and set on a baking dish.
- Just before placing skewers on the grill, dunk each one in bbq sauce.
- Cook over indirect fire for about 8- 10 minutes or until steak is cooked to desired temperature using a digital thermometer.
- Remove from grill and serve immediately.
INTERNAL TEMPERATURES FOR SIRLOIN STEAKS:
- Rare: 130°
- Medium Rare: 140°
- Medium: 155°
- Well Done: 165°
How to Store and Reheat:
Steak bites are so delicious that you probably won’t have any leftover. If you do, just remove bamboo picks and store in a ziploc bag or air tight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
To reheat, add to a skillet with 1 tablespoon of bbq sauce and cook over medium heat, stirring often for about 5 minutes.

We often times will just do a whole menu of appetizers for family get togethers, especially occasions like birthdays, Christmas Eve or any other laid back gathering.
We were also making Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms so we used the stems from the mushrooms for these bite sized appetizers. They fit perfectly on the skewers and the steak and mushroom combination is pretty irresistible. Use small mushroom caps if you prefer.

- 1/2 pound sirloin steak
- 1/2 small onion, sliced
- 8 ounces mushrooms (caps or stems)
- 1/2 cup Homemade BBQ Sauce
Instructions
Prepare a grill fire to about 300° with hickory for smoke flavor.
Soak bamboo picks in water for about 15 minutes.
Cut sirloin into about 1 inch chunks.
Slice onion into bite sized pieces.
Rinse mushrooms and pat dry with paper towels.
Drain bamboo picks.
Thread a mushroom, an onion slice and a chunk of steak onto each pick and set on a baking sheet.
Just before adding the steak bites to the grill, pour bbq sauce into a small bowl and dunk each steak bite into sauce.
Cook over indirect fire for about 8 -10 minutes or until steak reaches desired doneness.
Remove from grill and serve immediately.
Notes
Sirloin Steak Temperatures:
- Rare: 130°
- Medium Rare: 140°
- Medium: 155°
- Well Done: 165°
To store leftovers, remove steak and vegetables from picks. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
To reheat place in a skillet with about a tablespoon of bbq sauce and cook over medium heat, stirring often until heated through.
