Grilled okra is not slimy. Cooking the whole pods, instead of slicing seems to help with the texture.
Ingredients for Grilled Okra
- Fresh okra
- Olive Oil
- White Wine Vinegar
- Granulated Garlic
- Kosher Salt
- Fresh Ground Pepper
How to Grill Okra
- Wash and dry the okra.
- In a small bowl whisk together olive oil, vinegar, garlic, salt and pepper.
- Drizzle over the okra and toss together.
- Cook over direct fire on the grill with the lid closed for 5 minutes.
- Use tongs to turn the okra and continue to cook another 3- 5 minutes or until tender and slightly charred.
- Remove from grill and serve immediately.
Recipe Tips
- Choose small to medium size okra pods without any black spots.
- Okra can be grilled on skewers if you are worried about it falling through the grates.
- Italian Salad dressing can be substituted for the oil, vinegar and seasonings.
Store and Reheat
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
- Reheat in a skillet coated with olive oil over medium heat, stirring until heated through.
