Ingredients for Ground Beef Tacos

  • Bacon Grease or Olive Oil
  • Lean Ground Beef – We are using 90/10 grass fed beef.
  • Fajita Seasoning or Taco Seasoning
  • Taco Shells: Crispy Shells or Fajita size flour tortillas
  • Cheddar Cheese: Colby-Jack or Pepper Jack
  • Shredded Lettuce
  • Salsa Fresca
  • Green Onions
  • Sour Cream

Step-By-Step Directions for Ground Beef Tacos on the Grill

  1. Grease a cast iron skillet with bacon grease or olive oil.
  2. Add the ground beef and fajita seasoning.

  1. Place on a grill (we are using a pellet grill) and cook with the grill closed for 10 minutes.

  1. Break up the ground beef as it browns using a spatula or wooden spoon. Continue to cook until ground beef is well browned and reaches 165° using a digital meat thermometer.

  1. Remove from grill.
  2. Serve smoked taco meat with your favorite toppings and Mexican sides.

Recipe Notes

  • Stove Top: Ground beef taco meat can be prepared on the stove top in a skillet if desired. Cook over medium-high heat, breaking up as it cooks until well browned. Add 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke for smoky flavor.
  • Uses for Smoked Ground Beef: Makes delicious burritos, nachos, taco salad or chili.
  • Storage: Store leftover taco meat in an airtight container in the refrigerator 3-4 days or freeze up to 3 months.
  • Reheat: Cook taco meat over medium heat in a skillet with 1- 2 tablespoons of water, stirring until heated through.
