BBQ Chicken Pizza ~ Easy Grilled Pizza
Take out pizza has always been a favorite of ours but since we've learned to make pizza on the grill, we hardly ever go for restaurant pizzas. All of the ingredients can be prepped ahead to make this recipe even faster and cooking it on the grill makes for the absolute best tasting pizza.
Ingredients Needed:
- Pizza Dough ~ Store bought or homemade.
- Olive Oil
- Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sauce
- Shredded Cheese ~ We are using Monterey Jack on these pizzas. Pepper-Jack or mozzarella works well too.
- Grilled Chicken ~ Any leftover chicken or rotisserie chicken works too.
- Sliced Bell Peppers
- Sliced Red Onions
How to Grill BBQ Chicken Pizza:
- Prepare a grill fire to about 350° with a pizza stone. We used our Big Green Egg for this recipe with pecan for smoke flavor. If you are using a pellet grill or gas grill, you will want your fire at about 425°.
- Roll the pizza dough out into about a 10 inch circle on a floured surface.
- Place the dough onto a piece of parchment paper and place on a pizza peel.
- Brush or spray olive oil over the dough.
- Top with a small amount of bbq sauce and spread evenly. Too much sauce will overwhelm the other flavors, so you want a thin layer.
- Add a bit of cheese over the sauce.
- Top with sliced or diced chicken, peppers and onions.
- Add more cheese.
- Slide the pizza with the parchment paper onto the pizza stone. Cook with the grill closed for 5 minutes. Carefully remove the parchment paper, it should slide right out.
- Use a large spatula or metal pizza peel to turn the pizza a quarter turn. Continue to cook with the grill closed, rotating the pizza a quarter turn every 5 minutes.
- The pizza should be crisp around the edges and the bottom crisp in about 20 - 25 minutes.
- Remove from grill. Rest 5 minutes before slicing.
Homemade pizza is way easier than you think, even making pizza dough is simple. The dough comes together really quick and we usually have one pizza ready to go by the time the grill gets hot. Give it a try and you will never go back to frozen pizzas!
How to Store and Reheat:
- Store leftover pizza in a zip top bag in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
- Reheat pizza in a heavy bottom skillet on the stove top, in a toaster oven or air fryer.
Meal Prep Chicken is one of our favorite ways to get delicious meals on the table all week long. Meals like BBQ Chicken Pizza, BBQ Chicken Baked Potatoes and Grilled Chicken Enchiladas are a few of our favorites.
