Smoked pecans are a great addition to any charcuterie board or serve them as an appetizer for your next get together. They are incredibly easy to make and are sure to be a hit with anyone that loves pecans.

Ingredients for candied pecans.

Ingredients Needed

  • Pecan Halves
  • Butter
  • Brown Sugar
  • Dark Rum
  • Kosher Salt
  • Ground Cinnamon

Step By Step Directions

Collage: brown sugar, butter in a pan, making syrup, adding pecans.

  • Add butter, brown sugar, dark rum and cinnamon to a saucepan. 
  • Cook over medium-high heat, stirring to combine.
  • When mixture comes to a boil, cook for 1 minute.
  • Remove from heat and stir in pecans, mixing until well coated.

  • Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. 
  • Spread pecans in a single layer onto the parchment.

  • Cook on a pellet grill at 300° with the lid closed. 
  • Every 15 minutes, stir the pecans, keeping them in a single layer.

  • Cook 1 hour total.

  • Remove from grill and cool on the baking sheet until room temperature.

  • Store candied pecans in an airtight container at room temperature up to 1 week, refrigerated up to 3 weeks or freeze up to 3 months.

Smoked Candied Pecans are so delicious that you will probably want to go ahead and make a double batch. Add them to any snack board or chop them up and serve over salads and even ice cream. The pellet grill gives them just a hint of smoke flavor that compliments the sweet and salty pecans.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups pecan halves
  • cup brown sugar light or dark
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons dark rum
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and prepare a pellet grill to 300°.
  • Add brown sugar, butter, rum, kosher salt and ground cinnamon to a saucepan. Cook over medium- high heat. Stir to combine and bring to a boil. Cook for 1 minute.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the pecans until well coated.
  • Pour onto the prepared baking sheet and spread into a single layer.
  • Cook on the pellet grill with the lid closed, stirring every 15 minutes, cooking for 1 hour.
  • Remove from grill and allow to cool on the sheet pan until room temperature.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature up to 1 week, refrigerated up to 3 weeks or freeze up to 3 months. 

Notes

Substitute walnuts, almonds or mixed nuts for pecans if desired.

  1. I go through an irrational amount of candied pecans! They are so expensive in stores. I was super excited to try these and I was not disappointed! This recipe was so easy and they turned out so much better than the store bought ones (in my opinion) SO DELICIOUS!!

  2. The smokey flavor it was makes these pecans! They are addictive. I can’t stop eating them. Going to make a batch for Christmas gifts.
