Root Beer BBQ Ribs
Root Beer BBQ Ribs are sticky, sweet, smoky and delicious. A great addition to any cookout menu and wonderful to feed a crowd. Hardwood smoked pork ribs pair perfectly with our homemade Root Beer BBQ Sauce.
Grilled Spare Ribs are one of our go-to meals to feed a crowd. They are more meaty and can be considered more flavorful than baby back ribs. Either one works great with Root Beer BBQ Sauce.
Cooking several racks of ribs at once is great for feeding a crowd but we also love it as a make ahead meal. Grilled ribs are easy to reheat in the oven for another meal during the week. We also love these Fall Off the Bones Ribs for weekend cookouts.

🔥 Step By Step Directions
- Remove ribs from packaging and pat dry with paper towels.
- Place on a rimmed baking sheet. You can use a sharp knife to loosen the membrane on the bone-side of the ribs and remove it if desired. We prefer to leave it on.
- Brush or spray olive oil over the ribs.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Prepare a grill fire and make the Root Beer BBQ Sauce. For this cook we used our large Big Green Egg with lump charcoal and pecan chunks for smoke flavor.
- Place ribs, bone side down on the grill. We had 2 racks to cook so we cut them in half to fit on the grill and used a wire rack for a double layer.
- Cook with the grill closed for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes.
- Brush with Root Beer BBQ Sauce in a thick layer. Close the lid and continue to cook, brushing with bbq sauce once more. Cook until ribs reach 200° using a digital meat thermometer. We cooked these ribs about 2 hours total, that will vary according to the size of the ribs.
- Remove from grill. Tent with foil and rest 15 minutes.
- Slice with a sharp knife between the bones.
- Serve ribs with coleslaw and foil packet potatoes.
🔥 How to Store and Reheat
Store leftover ribs in a zip top bag or wrapped in foil in the refrigerator up to 4 days.
Reheat in a 350° oven on a sheet pan. Brush with sauce and cover with foil. Bake for 10- 15 minutes until heated through.
Root Beer BBQ Ribs are a comforting and delicious meal that will please a hungry crowd. A quick homemade root beer based bbq sauce that adds interesting flavors to the smoky pork ribs.
