Grilled Venison Roast is one of our favorites to make with the venison we have in the freezer. Thin sliced venison makes incredible sandwiches and is a delicious main coarse for any day of the week.

We have a whole family of hunters and love stocking the freezer with venison harvested from our family ranch. We have found cooking it on the grill turns out the most flavorful and tender and is enjoyed by the whole family.

These grilled Venison Teriyaki Meatballs are always a hit for a quick and easy party appetizer and everyone loves these Grilled Venison Chops with our brown sugar steak rub.

Raw venison roast seasoned with dry rub on a sheet pan.

  1. Pat roast dry with paper towels and place on a rimmed baking sheet. 
  2. Coat with olive oil and sprinkle with dry rub. 
  3. Prepare a grill fire. We used the Big Green Egg ceramic grill with lump charcoal and pecan chunks for smoke flavor. Raw venison roast on a grill.
  4. Cook roast over indirect fire with the grill lid closed. 
  5. Venison roast with bbq sauce on grill.Continue cooking for 1 hour 30 minutes. Brush with a generous coating of bbq sauce and continue to cook until roast reaches desired doneness using a digital meat thermometer. We cooked this roast to about 200° and total cooking time was about 2 hours. Venison roast barbecued on a sheet pan.
  6. Tent with foil and rest 15 minutes.Sliced venison roast on a cutting board.
  7. Slice using a sharp knife and serve immediately.

🔥How to Store and Reheat

  • Store leftover venison roast in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in a skillet coated with olive oil over medium heat, add additional bbq sauce if desired. Turn after a few minutes and continue to cook until heated through.

  • Prepare a grill fire to 350° using hickory or pecan for smoke flavor.
  • Pat the roast dry with paper towels and place on a rimmed baking sheet or cutting board.
  • Coat with olive oil on all sides and sprinkle steak rub all over the roast, pressing it into the meat.
  • Cook roast over indirect fire with the grill closed for 1 hour 15 minutes.
  • Brush with bbq sauce and continue to cook until roast reaches desired doneness. We used a digital meat thermometer cooking to about 200°.
  • Remove to a cutting board and tent with foil. Rest 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes
