Bacon Cheeseburgers

Grilled Bacon Cheeseburgers are sure to rival your favorite drive thru version. All beef burgers grilled with hardwood smoke served up with crispy bacon and your favorite toppings.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • ½ cup steak rub
  • ½ cup sweet and tangy bbq sauce
  • 18 slices thick cut bacon cooked
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • lettuce tomato
  • 6 burger buns
  • condiments like mayonnaise mustard, ketchup

Instructions

  • Prepare a grill fire to about 350° using hickory or pecan for smoke flavor.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, steak rub and bbq sauce. Mix with a spoon or with clean hands until well combined.
  • Form into 6 patties with an indentation in the center of each.
  • Grill burgers over indirect heat with the grill closed about 5 minutes. Flip burgers and continue to cook another 5-10 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165° using a digital thermometer.
  • Remove from grill and top with cheese slices.
  • Layer buns with favorite condiments, lettuce, tomato and bacon slices.

Notes

Store burger patties and bacon in an airtight container or zip top bag in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
Reheat burger patties in a covered skillet with a few tablespoons of water over medium heat. Flip after 3 minutes and continue to cook until heated through.
Reheat bacon in a separate skillet over low heat, turn to heat both sides until crisp.
