Ingredients

Instructions

  • Prepare a grill fire to 350° using hickory or pecan for smoke flavor.
  • Pat the roast dry with paper towels and place on a rimmed baking sheet or cutting board.
  • Coat with olive oil on all sides and sprinkle steak rub all over the roast, pressing it into the meat.
  • Cook roast over indirect fire with the grill closed for 1 hour 15 minutes.
  • Brush with bbq sauce and continue to cook until roast reaches desired doneness. We used a digital meat thermometer cooking to about 200°.
  • Remove to a cutting board and tent with foil. Rest 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Store sliced venison in an airtight container in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 4 days.
Reheat in a skillet coated with olive oil over medium heat. Add additional bbq sauce if desired, cooking until heated through.
