Grilled Caprese Burgers
Grilled Caprese Burgers are full of delicious Italian flavors and a surefire hit for any cookout or weeknight dinner. All beef burgers topped with mozzarella cheese, fresh tomatoes and basil. Add pesto mayo and lettuce to buttery toasted buns for a tasty burger that is sure to please.

- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- 2 tablespoons steak rub
- 4 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese sliced
- ½ cup diced roma tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil torn into pieces
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons pesto
- ½ cup shredded lettuce
- 4 burger buns
- 2 tablespoons butter
Prepare a grill fire to 350° using pecan or hickory for smoke flavor.
Make patties into 1/3 pound, thin patties.
Cook burgers on a hot grill, seasoning with steak rub with the grill closed for 5 minutes.
Flip the burgers and season again with rub. Continue to cook until burgers are cooked through to 165° using a digital meat thermometer.
Top with sliced cheese and melt on the grill or under broiler.
Butter and toast the burger buns.
Mix mayonnaise with pesto and spread onto the toasted buns.
Layer with shredded lettuce, burger patties, tomatoes and basil.
Serve immediately.
Store leftover burger patties in an air tight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
Reheat burger patties in a covered skillet with 1 tablespoon water 3- 5 minutes until heated through.
