Ingredients

  • 1 pound jumbo shrimp peeled and deveined
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ½ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 dashes hot sauce
  • 4 cloves minced garlic

Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk together the orange juice, soy sauce, sesame oil, hot sauce, brown sugar and garlic.
  • Add shrimp to a zip top gallon baggie and pour the marinade over the top. Seal the bag, pressing out the air. Turn the bag of shrimp over several times until shrimp is completely coated in the marinade. Refrigerate 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Preheat the grill to 300° using hickory or pecan for smoke flavor. We are using a Big Green Egg with lump charcoal and hickory chunks.
  • Pour the marinated shrimp onto a mesh grill grate or use a grill pan if you have wide grates. Cook over indirect heat for 5 minutes with the grill closed.
  • Flip the shrimp over and cook until shrimp starts to curl or reaches 145° using a digital thermometer. When shrimp is cooked through, remove from the grill.
  • Serve as a main dish or place on appetizer picks to serve and place on a platter to serve as an appetizer.

Notes

Optional Garnishes: Toasted sesame seeds, sliced green onions or red pepper flakes.
  • Storage: Leftover shrimp is rarely an issue but if you have a bit leftover, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: Reheat shrimp in a skillet coated lightly with olive oil over medium heat, stirring until heated through, about 3 minutes.
